Continuing Education

Purpose of continuing education

Continuing education is both an ethical and, under Article 40 letter b MedBG (Medical Professions Act), a legal obligation for every female and male physician.

Quote

“Sie vertiefen, erweitern und verbessern ihre beruflichen Kenntnisse, Fähigkeiten und Fertigkeiten durch lebenslange Fortbildung.”

Goal of continuing education

To promote and preserve the health of patients and the general population.
To maintain the medical competencies acquired during undergraduate and postgraduate training and to update them in accordance with medical advances.
To promote interest in research, teaching, and quality improvement, and to strengthen and enhance networking and collaboration among all those involved in the healthcare system.

With its Continuing Education Ordinance (FBO), the SIWF aims to promote high-quality standards that ensure safe medical care.

For members of the FMH, there is an additional legal basis besides the Medical Professions Act (MedBG).
Additionally, the Code of Conduct of the FMH (DE) applies.
Diese hält in Art. 3 Abs. 3 fest: “Sie sind zur ständigen Fortbildung gemäss Fortbildungsordnung verpflichtet.”
Thus, all members of the FMH are required, by virtue of the Code of Conduct, to undergo continuing education according to the rules of the Continuing Education Ordinance and, as a result, to obtain the Continuing Education Diploma.
